Milestones in the history of Ticona, Celanese
and Hoechst: A future-oriented company with tradition
Ticona's roots, which reach back to the 19th century, lie within
two companies: Celanese and Hoechst. 1961 saw the birth of Ticona, when Celanese and Hoechst founded
the joint venture Ticona Polymerwerke. The name Ticona derives from an American fort. After Hoechst's
acquisition of Celanese in 1987 and the restructuring of Hoechst a few years later, Celanese AG was
established in 1999 as a company of its own, within which Ticona operates independently.
